Van Nuys Mental Health Cases

Our prisons and jails are filled with individuals who have mental health problems. Many times if the mental health issue was treated the individual would not need incarceration and would be able to lead a crime free life. The laws in California are designed against the individual with mental health problems. In fact the laws, such as criminal threats, act as a vehicle of incarcerating an individual with a mental health problem for the rest of his life, through the three strikes law.

Attorney Amster is aware of this. Attorney Amster is appalled by this. Because of his caring about individuals with mental health problems, Attorney Amster has been a successful advocate for those that have these problems. His creativity, his legal knowledge, and sometimes his downright stubbornness, has prevented many individuals with mental health problems from going down the road to incarceration and instead obtaining the help they need.

Because Attorney Amster is active in the community, the courts and prosecutors know that he is serious when it comes to mental health issues. Through his leadership role in the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, he has obtained the respect of the prosecutors and judges who frequent the Van Nuys courts. The San Fernando Valley Bar Association is known for its many philanthropic activities such as ABlanket the Homeless@, Free Legal Clinics to the Needy, and other charitable activities. Attorney Amster is proud of the active role he has played in these activities to help those who are in need.

He is not only respected for his work as an advocate but also as a leader in the community. Attorney Amster is currently an officer in the paramount legal organization in the San Fernando Valley, the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. He has served as chairman of the Criminal Law Section. He has also served as treasurer of the entire association and he is currently secretary of the organization. In addition he has been chairman of the bench bar committee, and as one of the leaders of the association remains active in that committee. This committee meets once a month with the supervising judges of the Van Nuys, San Fernando, Burbank and Pasadena Courts. Often through this committee the courts are able to obtain action on matters that they would not be able to do on their own. Such as the Children's Waiting room that was recently opened in the Van Nuys Courthouse.
