LOS ANGELES MENTAL HEALTH ATTORNEY – VAN NUYS MENTAL HEALTH ATTORNEY – SAN FERNANDO MENTAL HEALTH ATTORNEY

MENTAL HEALTH ATTORNEY

Ever since the closure of our mental hospitals in California a terrible condition has been occurring. The incarceration of the mentally ill. The government in California has replaced our mental hospitals with prisons. Instead of helping the mentally ill the government waits until they commit a crime and then imprisons them in a state prison. The prison system does not provide them with the mental health they need. Instead exposes them to truly barbaric conditions allowing them to be taunted by other inmates and humiliated by those in charge of the daily routine of the inmates. The concept of providing them with any treatment other than providing them with medication is non-existent. Thus their problems are often excerbated instead minimized as a result of the prison experience. The individuals are then placed back into society only to reoffend because nothing has been done to elevate their mental illness. Eventually they commit enough crimes that they are sentenced under the three strikes law and placed in prison for the rest of their life. A sad commentary for a society such as ours.

WHAT CAN ATTORNEY AMSTER DO ?

Attorney Amster has learned how to handle these cases successfully in these difficult times. The first thing Attorney Amster does on these cases is obtain a complete social history on the client. This consists of obtaining all of the psychiatric records on the client. Attorney Amster then obtains information from friends and family to complete the social history.

Once armed with this information if Attorney Amster determines if the services of a psychologist is needed to analyze the information and suggest a treatment plan for the client. By having worked with so many psychologists in the past Attorney Amster knows which psychologist is best suited for a particular type of case. By providing the psychologist with the client’s psychiatric records and his social history Attorney Amster usually obtains the report that he desires from the psychologist.

Attorney Amster then is able to use his extensive knowledge of the law or his negotiating skills to obtain the proper result for the case. Often times he is able to arrange treatment over incarceration as a resolution of the case.

SPECIFIC EXAMPLES OF SUCCESSES OF ATTORNEY AMSTER!

A Developmentally Disabled Client- A client was charged with multiple felonies and several resisting arrests charges. He was a client of the regional center with a documented history of being developmentally disabled. He had been to prison on prior occasions concerning cases handled by attorneys other than Attorney Amster. Attorney Amster was able to prevent the client from going to prison and instead receive treatment for his drug problem.

A Mentally Disabled Client - A client was charged with possessing drugs and also was charged in a second case for passing a counterfeit bill. The client had previously been to state prison and it had been a terrible experience. The client was happy to remain in County jail in the mental ward , where he felt safe. Attorney Amster was able to resolve the case so that the client did all of his time in the County jail and did not have to go to state prison.

A Bipolar Client - A client was bipolar. He received some monies from social security. He used the monies to buy drugs to hand out at a Christmas party he had been invited to attend. He overdosed on some of the drugs he brought to the party. He admitted to the police that he had purchased the drugs for his own personal use and to give to his friends at the Christmas party as gifts. The prosecution charged him with possession for drugs for sale. The client had been to state prison on many prior occasions. Attorney Amster was able to find a loophole in the law and had the charges for possession for sales dismissed.
